Going Global: PHENEXS' Internationalization Strategic Layout and Challenges

Created on:2026-05-12 11:10

In the context of the accelerated integration of global biomedicine and high-end medical devices, Chinese innovative enterprise PHENEXS is advancing towards the international stage with a firm stride. As a high-tech enterprise specializing in the research, production and service of intelligent life science instruments, PHENEXS has continuously increased its overseas R&D investment in recent years, accelerating its layout in the markets of North America, Europe and Southeast Asia, marking the official launch of its strategic upgrade from 'China-made' to 'global solution provider'.
According to public information, PHENEXS established an European technology center in Munich, Germany in 2023, and jointly set up laboratories with three top local universities and two ISO 13485-certified laboratories. In early 2024, the company successfully passed the 510(k) pre-submission review by the US FDA, and its core product - the fully automatic high-throughput cell phenotypic analyzer PhenomScan X9 has been approved to enter the US pre-clinical research market. In addition, PHENEXS signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Singapore Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) to jointly build an Asia-Pacific AI-driven biological imaging platform, further strengthening its global technical discourse power in intelligent life science tools.
However, the road to internationalization is not smooth. During its expansion process, PHENEXS faced multiple challenges: including strict compliance entry thresholds in the European and American markets, the pressure to build a multilingual localization support system, the standard coordination difficulties in cross-cultural scientific research cooperation, and the supply chain resilience tests brought about by geopolitical fluctuations. Regarding this, Dr. Li Zhe, the CEO of PHENEXS, said in a recent interview with "Nature Biotechnology": 'PHENEXS' internationalization is not simply the export of products, but a systematic export of technical standards, service ecosystems, and talent networks. We are implementing the 'localized research + regionalized services + global standards' tripartite model to transform China's original life science basic tool capabilities into infrastructure that can be trusted and adopted by international mainstream research institutions. ’

It is worth noting that PHENEXS has launched the 'Global Fellow Program', aiming to recruit young scientists from around the world to join its overseas application support team. It also plans to establish customer experience centers (CX Hub) in Boston, Zurich and Seoul in the next three years to achieve a full-cycle response of 'device delivery - technical training - data loop'. With the delivery rate of the first batch of overseas orders exceeding 98% and the customer repeat purchase rate reaching 76%, PHENEXS is gradually verifying the sustainability and competitiveness of its internationalization strategy.
Industry experts have pointed out that PHENEXS' overseas expansion strategy has provided an important model for China's high-end scientific instrument enterprises: instead of relying on low-price competition, it builds a differentiated barrier through algorithm accuracy, multi-modal compatibility, and an open API ecosystem. Its independently developed PhenoLink™ cloud platform has connected the data workflows of over 120 research institutes worldwide, becoming a key digital bridge connecting Chinese and foreign life science research.
